Analysis of the Elixir Loong in Merge Tactics
The Elixir Loong is a premium, purchasable Ruler in Merge Tactics whose 'Endless Spring' modifier provides a persistent economic and strategic advantage. By granting an extra Golden Elixir and an increased team size each round, this Ruler enables more powerful early-game plays, faster card cycling, and greater team-building flexibility throughout a match.
The Elixir Loong is a premium 'Ruler' unit in the Merge Tactics game mode, obtainable through an in-app purchase. It is characterized as an exclusive Ruler, meaning it is not part of the standard gameplay progression and must be bought. Its appearance is that of a yellow Chinese-style dragon, reflecting its name and association with 'Golden Elixir'.
Its primary mechanic is the 'Endless Spring' modifier, which provides two significant in-game advantages. This modifier grants the player +1 Golden Elixir per round and increases their maximum team size by one unit at every stage of the match. This changes the base elixir gain from 4 to 5 per turn and the troop limit progression from 2-6 to 3-7.
Strategically, the 'Endless Spring' modifier creates a powerful early-game advantage. Having 5 Elixir on turn one allows for the immediate deployment of high-cost, high-impact troops, while the extra unit on the board increases overall damage output and survivability, making early-round losses less likely.
The sustained resource advantage facilitates more advanced strategies as the game progresses. The additional elixir allows for faster cycling through the shop to find key units or complete merges, and the expanded team size enables more complex and powerful trait combinations, such as combining two 4-unit traits.
The name 'Elixir Loong' has specific etymological roots that inform its design. 'Elixir' is derived from an Arabic word for a mythical substance believed to turn metals into gold and grant longevity, while 'Loong' is the Chinese word for dragon (龍/龙), a symbol of power and control over elements.
The Elixir Loong was introduced in the Q3 2025 update and was later made available through limited-time offers. Initially added to the 'Starsteel Road,' it was later removed and could only be obtained by purchasing a specific skin, indicating a history of monetized, time-gated availability.
